ExpressVu to introduce a "system charge" fee
Posted on Friday, February 28, 2003 - 01:15 PM
Bell TV (ExpressVu)

Get ready to pay another fee with Bell ExpressVu, starting April 28th they are introducing a new "system charge" of $2.99 per month to ALL customers.

This new fee comes on the heels of other recent increases in programming rates and the multiple receiver fee for new customers.

The question is, are Canadian DTH customers starting to get gouged by providers who essentially have them as a captive audience. Many customers have experienced increases of more than 60% over the last two years.ExpressVu's excuse for this new fee is to maintain their technology platform and for future upgrades, isn't this what base fees are meant to cover?

What about ExpressVu's security issues? Would it not be in their best interests to finally tackle this issue with technology and stop the signal theft rather than further alienate their customer base with added fees the pirates will just laugh at anyway?

We here at ChanCan think Canada's DTH providers need to bring their fees under control and stop considering their customers as open wallets just waiting to send more money their way. These new fees will do little to help the bottom line as they find customers cut back on their programming to compensate.

We welcome your comments.
