New Series And Seasons Of Standout Original Programming To Launch This Winter Across Food Network, HGTV And Slice™
Posted on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 - 06:29 PM
Canwest

Canwest announced today its line-up of Canadian lifestyle programming on deck for winter 2010. Continuing to be an industry leader and commissioning strong, standard-setting lifestyle content in Canada, Canwest is launching an enviable list of brand new, timely series and new seasons of Canadian favourites across its specialty lifestyle channels: Food Network, HGTV and Slice™.

Popular lifestyle channel Food Network is currently in production on a collection of original entertaining programming for its winter schedule including: a brand new series featuring renowned Chef, Lynn Crawford, who trades in her chef’s whites for blue jeans and gumboots as she embarks on a cross-country culinary adventure; Bitchin’ Kitchen, a deliciously wild cooking show for a new generation of foodies; and a Canadian culinary challenge based series hosted by Kevin Brauch (Thirsty Traveler, Iron Chef America) tentatively titled Chef Off. These new series are launching amongst the highest quality returning series: The Heat III, Glutton For Punishment IV and Wild Chef II.

This winter HGTV viewers are invited into the homes of celebrity contractors and designers who showcase their craftsmanship and design expertise in their own spaces. Contractor Bryan Baeumler (Disaster DIY) has a brand new series, House of Bryan, in which he is building the house of his dreams to accommodate his and wife Sarah’s hopes of expanding their family. Sarah Richardson welcomes HGTV viewers into a new home as she returns with a third season of her top-rated series Sarah’s House. Other notable returning series slated to launch during the winter season include Home To Flip II and Marriage Under Construction III.

Slice™ maintains its commitment to guilty pleasure programming with the launch of Love Inc. The brand new series follows the dramatic highs and lows of dating experts Annabelle and Justin, newlyweds who face the challenges of running a growing singles-event empire while trying to build a "normal" marriage. New seasons of Canadian favourites including At The End Of My Leash VI and Party Mamas III add further flare to the 2010 Winter schedule.

“The development of top-quality Canadian production has always been a priority across our lifestyle channels,” says Karen Gelbart, SVP Content, Lifestyle Channels. “We strive to provide viewers with only the strongest in themed programming, and the outstanding variety of timely, relevant content across Food Network, HGTV and Slice™ is a testament to that commitment.”

Canwest’s commitment to Canadian lifestyle content extends from on-air to online. This winter Foodnetwork.ca, HGTV.ca and Slice.ca visitors can expect to find online content from new Canadian series including streaming of full episodes, original webisodes and host-written blogs. Visitors can browse through the wealth of content developed for returning series including host video diary entries, Q&As with hosts and experts, and tips and advice.

Samples of upcoming lifestyle programming include:

Food Network

Bitchin’ Kitchen
(World Broadcast Premiere)
Hilarious, informative and deliciously demented, Bitchin’ Kitchen is a brand new cooking show for a new generation of foodies. From One Night Stand Breakfasts to Dump ‘em Desserts, twisted mastermind and chef-comedienne Nadia G offers recipes, lifestyle tips and more madness than you can shake a zucchini at! Bitchin’ Kitchen is based on the wildly popular web series by the same name.

Chef Off (working title)
(World Broadcast Premiere)
Duck, it’s a Food Fight! Dropped without warning in a culinary challenge, far from the safety of their world-class restaurants, Chefs/rivals Michael Lyon and Michael Blackie square off in a no holds barred competition. In every episode, these dueling foodies take on whatever’s thrown at them: bizarre ingredients, twists, turns, rules that suddenly change and judges who range from culinary experts to third grade kids. Whether cooking on a golf course or preparing a gourmet dinner at a drive-in theatre, Chef-combatants Blackie and Lyon entertain and engage with fascinating culinary tips, gastronomic lore and tricks of the trade only world-class chefs know. They will stop at nothing to win.

Fearless Chef (working title)
(World Broadcast Premiere)
After a twenty-five year career as a five-star, high profile chef, Lynn Crawford is trading in her chef’s whites for blue jeans and gumboots. This hilarious new Canadian series follows Chef Lynn as she travels across North America in search of the best and freshest ingredients available. In each episode she makes a deal with her local host—they let her work with them for a few days, and, in return, she throws a spectacular dinner featuring their product. Throughout her adventures Lynn tackles it all including bugs and the mud in the Louisiana crawfish ponds, cleaning up after the stinkiest pigs in Georgia, and wrestling lobsters in Nova Scotia.

Returning series of viewer favourites include: The Heat III, Glutton For Punishment IV and The Wild Chef II

HGTV

House of Bryan
(World Broadcast Premiere)
Contractor Bryan Baeumler (Disaster DIY) is building the house of his dreams to accommodate his and wife Sarah’s dreams of expanding their family. With two young children, their existing house just wasn’t big enough. With the help of skilled professionals, keen apprentices, some surprise helpers from Bryan’s past and all under the watchful eye of Sarah, viewers are taken along for the ride of one family’s renovation experience – the good, the bad, the ugly and the final reveal!

Highly anticipated returning series include: Sarah’s House III, Home To Flip II and Marriage Under Construction III.

Slice

Love Inc.
(World Broadcast Premiere)
Love Inc. follows the real-life adventures of married dating experts Annabelle and Justin, owners of FastLife, a business built on love - well, lust actually. While Justin sets his sights on the global expansion of their matchmaking empire, Annabelle clearly has babies on the brain and goals of her own. How does Annabelle get Justin to settle down when he’s focused on matchmaking the world? Can they keep the tension in the boardroom out of the bedroom and vice versa?

Returning seasons of channel favourites include: At The End of My Leash VI and Party Mamas III
