| CBC News Exclusive Airing Tonight: Robert Fowler Interview |

For the first time since his release after being held hostage by a North African al-Qaeda cell in Niger, Robert Fowler speaks publicly and exclusively to CBC News chief correspondent Peter Mansbridge on Tuesday, September 8 and Wednesday, September 9 on THE NATIONAL on CBC Television at 10 p.m. (10:30 NT) and on CBC Newsworld at 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET/PT .
On December 14, 2008 Fowler, a United Nations special envoy to Niger, his assistant Louis Guay and their driver were returning from a trip to a Canadian-operated mine in Niger when they were abducted. For more than four months, they were held hostage at gunpoint.
Fowler talks about that terrifying day in December when they were captured, the harrowing experience living with al-Qaeda, and he sheds light on the complicated negotiations that led to his release.
