Ratings: Highly anticipated Series Premiere wins time-slot, night and all key demos

CTV’s “reverse” simulcast of its original series Flashpoint debuted #1 in both Canada and the U.S. on Friday night. Across Canada, the series delivered 1.11 million total viewers, 140% more than the next closest 10 p.m. competitor, winning both its time-slot and the night. The series premiere also finished #1 in Adults 18-34, Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54 demos. The episode was #1 in each of Canada’s three metered markets; Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary. In all cases, the audience grew in its second half-hour, peaking at 1.26 million viewers.

Ratings: EURO Final Attracts Record 1 Million Viewers on TSN

TSN’s live coverage of yesterday afternoon’s UEFA EURO 2008® final featuring Germany vs. Spain attracted a national average audience of 1.01 million viewers, making it the most watched EURO game ever on TSN. Audience levels peaked at 1.13 million viewers from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET towards the end of the game as Spain defeated Germany 1-0 to win its first European Championship in 44 years.

Ratings: Record Numbers Tune In to Camp Rock on Family Channel

Astral Media’s Family Channel has further established itself as the destination for kids, as nearly 420,0001 viewers, aged 8-14, tuned in for the June 20 broadcast of the Jonas Brothers blockbuster Camp Rock. With a 47 per cent share of viewing2, the broadcast of this Disney Channel original movie is now the highest-rated program for this demographic in the last five years, for both specialty and conventional television, surpassing last summer’s record set by the Family Channel broadcast of High School Musical 2.

Ratings: Record Audiences for 108th U.S. Open Championship on TSN

TSN’s live coverage of the first four rounds of the U.S. Open Championship delivered a national average audience of 361,000 viewers, making it the most-watched U.S. Open tournament ever on TSN. This marks a 43% increase over last year’s overall average audience (253,000 viewers) and a 6% increase over the previous tournament high (341,000 in 2000).

Ratings: Grey's Anatomy is Canada's Number 1 Show For 2007-2008

With 2.6 million viewers scrubbing in for Grey’s Anatomy’s season finale last Thursday, the series has ended the 2007/2008 broadcast season as Canada’s most-watched series overall among key demos and Canada’s #1 drama series among total viewers. With an average audience of 2.5 million viewers this season, Grey’s Anatomy follows only American Idol among total viewers, making it the #1 drama in the country and leading House (Global, 2.17 million) by nearly 15%. Grey’s Anatomy takes over bragging rights from last season’s most-watched drama in Canada, CSI.

Ratings: American Idol Season Finale Up 18% as 3.1 Million Watch David Cook Crowned on CTV

David Cook’s coronation as the seventh American Idol was watched by 3.1 million viewers last night on CTV, up 18% compared to last year. It was the most-watched Idol episode of the season and one of the most-watched broadcasts on Canadian television this year. The highly anticipated finale peaked at 3.7 million viewers in the nail-biting final minutes as Cook, the 25-year-old, soft-spoken, spiky-haired bartender from Blue Springs, Missouri, defeated David Archuleta, the angelic 17-year-old from Murray, Utah.

An unprecedented average audience of 2.03 million viewers watched RDS’s coverage of Game 7: Boston @ Montreal last night, as the Habs pulled out a 5-0 victory to advance to the Conference Semifinals. Audience levels peaked at 3.08 million viewers at the end of the game. RDS captured 52% market share for the evening.

Ratings: CBC Trumps Global With Primetime Share of 7.8

With the great success of The Border, the most-watched Canadian drama, the highest ratings ever for Rick Mercer Report, and strong showings from several new series, CBC Television increased its prime-time share (7 p.m. to 11 p.m.) to 7.8 for weeks six through 32 (October 1, 2007 to April 6, 2008), surpassing Global for the first time since 1995.

It wasn’t only the Montreal Canadiens that got off to a great start last night: RDS achieved an average audience of 1,480,000* viewers during the first game between the Habs and the Boston Bruins in the first round of the NHL Playoffs. Audience levels peaked at 1,717,000 around 9 p.m. ET.

Oprah’s Big Give debuted BIG on CTV last night when 1.7 million viewers tuned in to the series premiere. The entertaining and heart-warming addition to CTV’s spring schedule was the most-watched program of the day nationally among total viewers as well as the key advertising demos A25-54 (1.01 million) and A18-49 (960,000). The program was also No. 1 among total viewers and A25-54 in Toronto and Vancouver.

Super Bowl XLII attracted a record audience for the Super Bowl in Canada on CTV and RDS, preliminary overnight figures from BBM Nielsen Media Research confirms today*. A combined audience of 5.07 million viewers on CTV and RDS surpassed the previous record of 4.98 million in 2006 on Global (4.281 million) / RDS (702,000).
