The Movie Network announced today that it will launch The Movie Network HD (TMNHD) on May 1, 2005. Offering a 24-hour schedule of premium HD programming, TMNHD is a High-Definition channel available free of charge to subscribers of The Movie Network.

Movie Central (Western Canada) and The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) announced the much-anticipated exclusive national premiere of the HBO Original Film, The Life and Death of Peter Sellers. A critical hit at this year's Cannes Film Festival, the star-studded biopic skips theatres and premieres Sunday, December 5 at 8 p.m. MT and 9 p.m. ET on pay-TV, day-and-date with HBO.

Movie Central & TMN add Showtime's Huff series to fall programming lineup

Movie Central (Western Canada) and The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) have added the much-anticipated new 13-part Showtime dramatic series Huff to their fall programming schedules. Starring Hank Azaria (Tuesdays With Morrie), Paget Brewster (Friends), Blythe Danner (Meet the Parents) and Oliver Platt (The West Wing), Huff premieres nationally Monday, November 8 at 8 p.m. MT and 10:15 p.m. ET. Subsequent episodes are scheduled to premiere Mondays at 8 p.m. MT and 10 p.m. ET.

On February 1, 1983, First Choice Communications officially opened for business, and became the first to premiere “Star Wars” in Eastern Canada. 20 years and several name changes later, The Movie Network is now one of the largest broadcasters of Canadian movies and was the first to bring the “The Sopranos” to Canada.

Great programming in High Definition and Dolby Digital 5.1 continues in 2003 on The Movie Network

Nearly three years ago The Movie Network became the first Canadian broadcaster to integrate High Definition into their daily programming schedules. Today, they continue to be technology forerunners in Canadian broadcasting through both High Definition and the theatre-quality sound of Dolby Digital 5.1. The Movie Network broadcasts an average of 12 High Definition titles per month and an average of 16 Dolby Digital 5.1 titles per month, programmed with multiple showing times.
