Premiering Wed., Jan. 2 at 8 p.m. ET/10 p.m. PT on Discovery Channel, Really Big Things profiles the inner workings of massive man-made wonders that keep our world moving. Host - and former American Idol finalist - Matt Rogers gets a close-up look at big machines, giant telescopes, massive structures and other really big things that are changing the way we live. On a global quest for all things gigantic, Really Big Things explores huge machinery of all kinds - from the world's largest windmill turbine in Germany to the largest telescope in Arizona, U.S.A. With three massive marvels featured in each episode, Rogers gets into the thick of things as he gets his hands on the Rammer Hammer to break ore in the Arctic Circle and visits the Ames Research Center in San Jose, California, where NASA built one of the largest three-dimensional motion simulators in the world. Episode highlights include: Really Big Things - "Paper Maker" Wed., Jan. 2 at 8 p.m. ET/10 p.m. PT Matt Rogers explores the Concrete Mat Sinking Unit that helps prevent bank erosion along the Mississippi. Then, he heads to the Sweden to use the Rammer Hammer to break ore in the Arctic Circle. And finally, Rogers learns to make paper at the world's largest paper mill. Really Big Things - "Windmill Factory" Wed., Jan. 9 at 8 p.m. ET/10 p.m. PT Matt Rogers catches a pass on the one-of-a kind retractable football field at the Arizona Cardinals Stadium. Also, Rogers rides aboard the largest dump truck in existence. Then he helps to assemble one of world's the largest windmill turbines. Really Big Things - "Largest Telescope" Wed., Jan. 16 at 8 p.m. ET/10 p.m. PT Matt Rogers checks out a vertical motion simulator, a blast hole drill and the Largest Binocular Telescope. Really Big Things - "Giant Tree Spade" Wed., Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. ET/10 p.m. PT Weighing in at 42,400 kilograms, spanning 21 metres in length and four metres in height, the Giant Tree Spader is in a class of its own. Does Matt Rogers have a chance against this fierce competitor? Also, he visits a company that specializes in retreading tires. Really Big Things - "Swing Bridge" Wed., Jan. 30 at 8 p.m. ET/10 p.m. PT Matt Rogers visits the Evolution Locomotive in Erie, PA; a dredger on the Mississippi River and the Spokane Street Swing Bridge in Seattle. Really Big Things - "Really, Really Big Show" Wed., Feb. 6 at 8 p.m. ET/10 p.m. PT Matt Rogers takes a ride on "The Spirit of America," one of the Goodyear Blimps. He then tackles a trash compactor in California and visits the Cirque du Soleil show KA in Las Vegas.
