Bell ExpressVu today announced that it would begin carrying Leafs TV effective today, Friday April 4, 2003.
Leafs TV, which provides unprecedented access to the Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Club - its past, present and future - will be available only to Bell ExpressVu subscribers in Ontario outside of the Ottawa Valley area where it will be blacked out because of National Hockey League restrictions. Bell ExpressVu is introducing the channel with a three-month free preview on
channel 404.
Leafs TV takes fans behind the scenes at the Air Canada Centre and brings them exclusive interviews with their favourite Leaf personalities as well as pre- and post-game coverage offering discussion, detailed analysis and highlights of the Leafs and their competition and highlights with statistical updates, game summaries and press conferences.
"We are pleased to add Leafs TV to our already strong line-up," said Timothy McGee, Bell ExpressVu President. "Leafs TV is unique in the broadcast market - covering a single sports team that has a tremendous following and a world-class brand. Leafs TV format and in-depth, exclusive coverage makes it a strong addition to Bell ExpressVu's sports offering and answers the demands of Leaf fans that it be added to the service."
Leafs TV produces more than 60 hours per week of original programming with shows such as Game in an Hour, where every Maple Leafs game is repackaged into an exciting uninterrupted presentation. Broadcast immediately after the game, without the stoppages, intermissions or distractions of a normal hockey telecast, this show delivers clean-cut hockey.
"Leafs fans are the most loyal and dedicated sports fans in the world and we know they want access to Leafs TV. Bell ExpressVu enables us to build a closer more in-depth relationship with them and will help us to create a new legion of Leafs fans," said Richard Peddie, President and Chief Executive Officer of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. "Having Bell ExpressVu carry the channel is like the final piece of the puzzle. We can now say that Leafs TV is available through all major distributors in Ontario, which is fantastic."
